For first-time customers, we will explain how the process works and what points may help increase the appraisal value.
Points We Check During Appraisal
Appearance
We check for scratches, signs of use, dents from drops, button operation, rust on metal parts, and other exterior conditions.
Optics
We check the inside of lenses, camera viewfinders, and other optical parts for fungus, scratches, haze, and balsam separation.
Balsam separation is a condition where the adhesive between lens elements separates due to age. It may cause discoloration or haze. This is often seen in old lenses and classic camera viewfinders such as the Leica M3.
Operation
We check whether the item works properly.
If there is a major issue such as the shutter not working, the appraisal value may be significantly reduced.
For classic cameras, if they have not been serviced for many years, the shutter and other mechanisms may have problems.
Accessories
Accessories can also affect the appraisal value.
If important accessories such as batteries or chargers are missing, the appraisal value may be lower.
How to Increase the Appraisal Value
Taking good care of your camera on a regular basis is the best way to help maintain its value.
Avoiding drops and impacts is important, but one of the biggest factors that lowers the value is fungus.
Items that have been stored unused in a closet for a long time may have severe fungus or haze, and in some cases, they may not be appraised at a high value.
To prevent this, please keep the following points in mind:
Avoid moisture.
If the item gets wet from rain or sweat, wipe it gently with a soft cloth and let it dry.
Store properly.
Do not store cameras in closets for long periods. To help prevent fungus, we recommend using a dry cabinet or dry box with desiccant.
Avoid excessive dryness.
Too much dryness may cause or accelerate balsam separation or drying of lubricants. Please keep proper humidity, around 30–50% RH. Good ventilation is also important.
Clean after use.
After shooting, remove dust with a blower. If you touch the lens surface, clean it with lens cleaning paper or a lens pen.
Proper care can help increase the appraisal value.
