Reasons why used or older models are acceptable

Thank you for visiting our blog.

Since some people are concerned about "used" and "older models,"
I've decided to write an article about it.

When I, the author, purchase home electronics, including cameras, I generally choose older models.
When buying used, it's often an older model, but even at electronics retailers, new old-stock models are sometimes sold at special prices.

Below, I've summarized my reasons for choosing used or older models.

This discussion will focus on recent digital cameras, explicitly excluding film cameras and classic cameras, which are, of course, older models.
It also excludes cameras with extremely low pixel counts, such as 10MP or less. I hope this provides a helpful reference for anyone considering buying used or older models.

Reasons for choosing used or older models

  • Lower price

This is the biggest reason.
When new products are released, older models become cheaper.
They also circulate on the used market, making them affordable.
Products that were expensive and aspirational when first released might become attainable after a few years.

  • New to me

This is my personal opinion, but if a product was released after what I currently own,
even if a newer model has since come out,
I still consider it new to me.
Even if I know it's a slightly older model,
I still get excited when I unbox it as my own.
As a camera shop owner, I have many opportunities to handle various cameras,
but the joy of touching something I bought myself is on another level.

  • New features are not a concern

Many people want or wish to try newly installed features, but there are also many who don't and simply need something practical. For such people, older models offer better cost performance.

I personally use older models like the SONY α7II and α6300.
If the α7IV comes out, I'd consider buying the III.
Previously, I used the Nikon D810, Df (older model?), and D7100,
all of which I still recommend.

People for whom this is not recommended

Those who do not fall into the above categories.
People who use it for work.
I find it difficult to recommend used items to overly sensitive people.
I recommend checking them thoroughly in-store.
